The Golden Circle Tour starts early at your place of stay. To take a private tour with us on the golden circle is an unforgettable memory of your travels in Iceland.

The Golden Circle Tour

We cover all the major attractions of southwest Iceland, starting with a drive to the national park of Thingvellir, where the first settlers of our great country established our parliament in the year 930.

Althingi, our parliament is the oldest working parliament in the world.  At Thingvellir, we invite you to walk through the ravine of Almannagja, if the weather permits.  When walking through the ravine, people have said that you are walking between the two continental plates. We do not want to ruin a good experience by babbling some extremely accurate geographical facts but we will if you want.

Thingvellir is considered one of the best places in Iceland to see the effects of the separation of the two continental plates and how the rift valley appears.

After our stop at Thingvellir, we continue our journey and the next stop is Gullfoss.

The Golden Circle Tour

We arrive at the waterfall of waterfalls, Gullfoss. It is often referred to as the Queen of Icelandic waterfalls. It has a 32 meter drop through three stalls. The water has created a deep ravine and through this ravine the river, Hvita, runs towards the ocean. It is a good idea to dress warm because it can be very windy at Gullfoss and in certain wind-direction it gets extremely cold. After our stop at Gullfoss, we continue our journey and the next stop is Geysir.

The Golden Circle Tour

We drive on to Geysir, the world’s most famous hot spring. Currently, Strokkur (Geysir’s smaller brother) is the only one that is spouting but does so in a spectacular way every few minutes. In this case we have to be patient and also keep in mind that warm clothing is always a good idea. After our stop at Geysir, we continue our journey and the next stop is Friðheimar.

The Golden Circle Tour

Friðheimar tomato farm has proven to be one of the main attractions on the golden circle. We offer you to stop there for lunch on our golden circle tour. At Friðheimar you sit down in a beautiful greenhouse full of tomatoes and bumble bees. It really is a once in a lifetime experience. We hope that you enjoy this part of the tour with us. The menu is very simple. Tomato soup with bread or pasta or tortilla pizza. You can spice the soup up with meat or vegetable sticks and they also serve delicious mussels.  For desert, you can choose from tomato cheesecake, tomato ice-cream or tomato apple pie. After our stop at Friðheimar, we continue our journey and the next stop is the Secret Lagoon.

The Secret Lagoon:

From Friðheimar, we go to the wonderful Secret Lagoon. It is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland, getting it’s hot water from the local hot springs which are situated in the pool area. The Secret Lagoon is unique and absolutely the best place to stop after a perfect tour with us. You will need a swimsuit and a towel, but both can be rented at the lagoon. The entrance fee to the Secret Lagoon is 3.000 ISK / 21 USD / 19 EUR for adults, and free for children under the age of 14. After our bath at the Secret Lagoon, we continue our journey and the next stop is Skálholt cathedral.

From the Secret Lagoon we head to Skálholt, one of Iceland’s most historical places. Skálholt was an episcopal see, a school, a seat of learning and administration for more than 700 years and a place of pilgrimage in medieval times. The cathedral at Skálholt is extremely beautiful, built in the years 1956-1963 with good help from the other Scandinavian countries. After our stop at Skálholt, we continue our journey and the next stop is Kerið.

Our last stop on this tour is the 6.500 year old crater Kerið. It emptied in an eruption and the top caved in on the magma chamber. Now there is water at the bottom. The crater has very good acoustics and has been used for outdoor concerts.

Does Iceland really have crazy weather?

Please keep in mind that the tour changes during the winter months, from October until April. It is impossible due to daylight conditions to operate the tour with as many stops as during summer. We do try our best though.

During winter, we recommend that you do this tour as a two day tour, which is brilliant because that gives you the option of hunting for the northern lights.

Spending an extra day during summer is also a great idea. Contact us for further information.

You can also check out our FAQ page if you have any questions and if you do not find what you are looking for there, please CONTACT us.

If you need more information about the south you can find it HERE or ask us.

After a fantastic day on The Golden Circle Tour, which you will cherish and remember for the rest of your life, we take you back to Reykjavik.
