The Golden Circle

To take a private tour with us on the golden circle is an unforgettable moment of your travels in Iceland.  We cover all the major attractions of southwest Iceland.

starting with a drive to the national park of Thingvellir, where the first settlers of our great country established our parliament in the year 930.  Althingi, our parliament is the oldest working parliament in the world.  At Thingvellir, we invite you to walk through the ravine of Almannagja.  At the moment that you walk through, you are in fact walking between the two continental tectonic plates, the EurAsia plate and the North American plate.

The Tour:

We begin our tour at Thingvellir, our first national park and the location of the world’s oldest working parliament, Althingi. The vikings that settled our great country in the year 870 decided in 930 to form a parliament, similar to those they had before in Norway. The location was chosen to be at Thingvellir(Parliament Grounds). We take you through time and tell you everything there is to know about the parliament and our society now and then.

From Thingvellir, we take you through a small village on the bank of lake Laugarvatn. The lake is known for its high level of seismic activity.

We drive on to Geysir, the world’s most famous hot spring.  Currently, Strokkur (Geysir’s smaller neighbour) is the only one that is erupting but does so in a spectacular way every few minutes.

After our stop at Geysir, we continue to the waterfall of all waterfalls, Gullfoss.  Gullfoss is often referred to as the Queen of Icelandic waterfalls.

From Gullfoss we take you to Fridheimar, the famous tomato farm. Fridheimar has proven to be one of the Golden Circle’s main attractions. To sit down and have lunch in a green house is rather special. The menu is very simple, only three courses to choose from and then three deserts to choose from. One hint, all the courses are made of tomatoes or served with tomatoes. Do not forget the home baked bread which they serve with the soup.

After lunch we head towards the wonderful Secret Lagoon.  It is the oldest swimming pool in Iceland, getting its hot water from the local hot springs which are situated in the pool area.  The Secret Lagoon is unique and completely worth the stop. You will need a swimsuit and a towel, but both can be rented at the lagoon. The entrance fee to the Secret Lagoon is 2.800 ISK per person.

From the Secret Lagoon we take you to Skalholt, one of Iceland’s most historical places.  Skalholt was an episcopal see, a school, a seat of learning and administration for more than 700 years and a place of pilgrimage in medieval times. It is the location of where the last catholic bishop in Scandinavia was executed along with his two sons in 1550, marking the end of the reformation in the danish kingdom.
